I am considering getting pet insurance for my youngest Justice because he seems to be a little accident prone. Has any one had any experiences with pet insurance?

Yea... same as Charlie I keep meaning to do it, but never get around to it. The girls play really, really rough and scare me sometimes. NOW, with the little one I am seeing more of a necessity, because she has NO FEAR and tries to climb everything, fight with Faith and Denali, etc., etc.. From what I have seen it's about $25-40 per month depending on the breed, medical history, how much coverage you want, etc.. All the plans I have seen offer multiple levels of coverage and from what I can see, it isn't really worth it to take the "cheaper" coverage, because they will still leave you with bills if you have a big accident. Anyway... let me know who you look into and who you go with. I'd be interested to know. GOOD LUCK

I have found that the coverage offered is different between companies. There is one that in my opinion is best. I dont want to post it here as that would be promoting another company. But I will PM it to you ppl if you want!!!!

I have a friend that works with Petsmobilty and I know that Petsmo will be offering Pet Insurance to its members in the very near future. They will be giving member discounts for Petsmo members and the insurance is underwritten from one of the oldest and best companies in the business.

I have accident insurance on Molly. Covers things like ingestion of foreign objects and pretty well anything that you can't plan for. it's inexpensive and gives me peace of mind. I hope I never need to use it but I like knowing it's there.

I am not sure. I know that Pet Care was one of the candidates but I am not sure who they decided to go with. I will find out and let you know.

Hi we had pet insurance (full coverage) on our dogs, i cant say what company but i will tell you this company took our money and was not just a waste of time but ripped us off. on of our dogs had cherry eye and needed surgery , we payed for the surgery and sent in our forms to our insurance company. they gave us the run around for 5mnths and then said no and couldnt even give us a reason why. but im sure not all companys are like that. so i wouldnt discourage it but id becareful who you go through. thanks and have a great day everyone.

I have insurance for my 2 cats and my dog. I wont say the name but I got it free for the first month after I adopted Sadie. It was part of the deal at SPCA. I haven't had to use it yet but it seems like a good idea. The coverage is Lifetime benefits per pet $15,000 Third party property damage liability up to $25,000 I pay $76.62/month for the 3 of them I see it as put money in a savings account and using it for when my girls get sick, if they don't get sick, so what, they could have and if they did I'd be able to afford to make them better. It's a small price to pay for piece of mind. And if they destoy someones stuff I'm covered there too.

Speaking from experience, I STRONGLY SUGGEST that you get insurance for your pet. My Lab. is kind of a clutz, and I didn't have insurance until I totally got burned with vet bills for various things. I use PetCare, and have never had any issues with them. I send in the claims, and get a cheque quickly. Good luck!

Just watch which company you go with, I use the same company that "The Dagda" uses. I have been verry happy with them. As to "sunkissedpei"s commment: Most insurance companies are looking for an out. No one wants to pay. Thats why they give you the run arround for so long. My car insurance is like that. It took like 6 months to get my front end fixed after someone backed into me in a parking lot. If your dog had a health issue before your start of insurance, many companies consider that a "pre-dissposed" health issue. Then they allow them selves, in the fine print of course, to be exempt from paing out on things like that. A good example is my dog. When he was young I was trying so hard to figure out what his allergies were too. So we were doing elimination diets arround the time he was due to be neautered. (He had no insurance at this point) The vet noted on his file, when he was doing the neauter, that Odin had some "skin leasions" that looked to be caused by an irritation to something. So when Odin was neautered, we got insurance so I pay the lower premium for his whole life. (Enrolled as a neautered puppy under 6 months) Over a year later, the allergies were under control, but he had some hair loss on his ears. So we did a scraping, and tested for mites and such. The insurance would not pay for the lab tests, as his skin issues were noted PRIOR to the enrollment date. (Little buggers) So now I know that if he has a skin issue, its not covered, so I just take care of it myself. Its a sleezy little loop hole, but they cover themselves well. Thats just what they do... The other thing is if your dog is a specific breed, you may be listed at a higher prem with some companies, as some breeds are more likely to have commin health issues. A good example is a Great Dane, ie: hip/elbow issues. Also, if you have intact dogs, (not spayed or neautered) you may have to pay more, and if they develop uterine cancer for example, its not covered. Any issue that their vets could link to being intact will not be covered. Lots of companies require that you pay for the vet appt (the initial $50 appt fee) and a percentage of the services. I have 90% covereage. So on a $1000.00 bill, I pay the $50 appt fee, and 10% of the services. So that works out to $145 that I pay and they REMBURSE you for the other $855. Thats the other catch, you have to fork out and then file for a chq to be sent back. Be sure to look into all these avenues before you sign up with any company. You may want full coverage like "The Dagda" and I have or you may be okay will accident insurance like "Molly", or maybe you are okay with your own personal savings for your dog. In the end, its nice to have piece of mind, and its worth the time doing research! Good Luck!!

I use PetPlan and there are really good. I have a 5 and half month old puppy and i had a six week trial of the insurance and about 1 week after we got him he chewed on something and next thing you know he was in toxic shock i had to go the emergency vet at 2am and luckily i got the insurance becuase it was a hefty bill of $500 dollars, we paid a one time deductabile of $50 and then we got $368 back which is better than nothing. Plus when you call about anything they are really good at wxplaining everything for you and their application claim forms are easy to fill out straight forward. I pay $35 a month plus i get a discount becasue i work at an animal hospital they give that incentive for people who work in a Vet office. Ihave the Ribbon plan it would be $45 for a non Vet employee. Anyways good luck it is worth it for sure.
