does anyone have any ideas for homemade feet protectors for dogs? something waterproof and not so easy to get off? i have bought booties in the past, they are exspensive and eventually get ruined. im looking to make my own, when needed to heal sores and keep dry...they wouldnt be doing hard activity, just going out to do their business... any ideas...the sock and duct tape idea dont work and are not water resistant/proof

What you need to do is make some out of a lycra based material that are 20% smaller than the dimensions of your dog's paws. Then, you would spray the outside with either a rubberizer or a water repellent. One metre of fabric would make oodles and oodles of them..... If you didn't want to use the lycra type fabric, then make them out of a vinyl-based fabric and use velcro for the closures. Far cheaper to make your own than to buy the pre-made ones on the market.....

I love them! Duct tape solves all! They look like they were made by duct-taping over a pair of child's or baby socks and then adding the sticky-back velcro to the top. BTW, LoveMyDane, did you know that the oodles of Thrift Stores down in the Lower Mainland are a great source of supplies? There is even a store run by RAPS (Richmond Animal Protection Society)... Look for things like old hip or chest waders. You can salvage enough fabric from them to make oodles of extremely high quality booties for your babies. The fabric that goes into them runs between 25 and 50 dollars a metre! Okay, guys, so I'm cheap - comes from my upbringing, I guess! (And a rather warped mind that sees things differently than most - LOL! - that's why I was able to envision tree trunks from very cheap fleece throws....!)

Hey Gintz, thanks for the idea about waders, i work for a program that teaches fisheries and we have waders that need to be replaced. Next time we do that I might snag a pair to use for material for doggie shoes. I would never have thought of that.

have you tried good old yellow latex gloves? If it's only for a short time that should be fine.
