 CHINESE SHAR-PEI DESCRIPTION
The Shar-Pei is well known for their sandy-coloured fur and wrinkled skin. It has a sad expression with a soilid build and large jaws.

 CHINESE SHAR-PEI HISTORY
The origins of the Shar-Pei are largely unknown, as many of the records of this breed were lost during the Communist Revolution, though they are believed to come from similar roots as the Chow and may have existed in the southern parts of China as early as 200 BC.
The Shar-Pei was often owned by peasant farmers, acting as guard dogs, hunters and fighting dogs.

Over the years after the revolution, many of China's dogs were eliminated and the remaining Shar Peis were kept by owners in Hong Kong and Taiwan until they were introduced to America in the 1970s.

 CHINESE SHAR-PEI TEMPERMENT
Shar Peis are not known to be overly affectionate. They are somewhat aloof and suspicious of strangers and can be stubborn. They are very protective of their family.

These dogs can be quite aggressive towards other dogs and unfamiliar animals, though they are often well-mannered with other household pets.
